As the new academic year begins, boarding life at Concord Academy is already buzzing with energy. CA’s Boarding Council (BC) is a group of enthusiastic boarding leaders who strive to make boarding life at CA comfortable and memorable this year, led by Head of Boarders Joy Xu ’26 and Vice Head of Boarders Astrid Erdos ’26. They organize various bonding activities throughout the school year, including but not limited to SHAC nights, house competitions, Big Sibling–Little Sibling programming, and late-night exam week snacks.
Joy is thrilled to collaborate with BC to build a stronger, more supportive community. “The magic of boarding life really lies in the relationships and the sense of family we build in the boarding spaces,” she stated. “Overall, I want to nurture that by creating and being a part of the spaces where people feel comfortable being themselves, expressing themselves, and having fun.”
In the upcoming year, Joy wishes to keep the current boarding traditions while adding more fun ideas. Her experience as an entertainment representative and East Asian Student Association (EASA) co-head has taught her a lot about event planning, working with adults, logistics, and making things happen. She looks forward to bringing these skills to BC and, most importantly, creating a safe space for all.
Working closely with Joy, Astrid is eager to help guide BC to create a more connected and welcoming community with her thoughtful leadership and collaborative spirit.
The rest of BC includes the Heads of Houses, who lead weekly house meetings, conduct nightly check-ins, and, most importantly, make every boarding student feel welcome, safe, and comfortable in a home away from home. This year, Tara Djordjevic ’26, Yliana Lopez ’26, Edie Menard ’26, and Chloe Park ’26 will be leading the female-identifying houses, while Davian Diaz ’26, Andrew Maina ’26, Kien Pham ’26, and Ryan Zhao ’26 will be leading the male-identifying ones.
All of the Heads of Houses are looking forward to a year of meaningful connections and vibrant dorm life. Tara is projecting a new school year with a sense of a more connected community. “We’re gonna do a good job this year. I'm hoping that every house would feel like home, like one big house.” As a new Head of House, she wishes to establish an environment where everyone feels safe and welcome.
Edie is excited to form bonds and connections between boarders and BC. She hopes to facilitate trust in the boarding community where every boarding student is valued and heard. “My goal is to bring energy, silliness, and most importantly, openness, [which is] the key to feeling connected as one.”
Together, Joy, Astrid, and all of the amazing Heads of Houses are ready to lead a year filled with support, connection, and unforgettable experiences. Boarding life in the 2025–26 academic year promises to be more than just a dormitory. It will truly feel like family.
