Larry,

I need to lock in, point blank. I always tell myself I’ll sit down to do my homework but end up doomscrolling reels for an hour in the library. I even tried downloading “aesthetic” study apps I found on TikTok to keep me motivated, but nothing seems to work. Am I doomed?

Help,

Locked Out

‍

Locked Out,

First, put your phone face down and far away when you work. Even better, have a friend hold onto it for you while you study. Close all unnecessary tabs, and work in a peaceful, quiet environment. Remember: while healthy study habits can be difficult to master, they get easier and increasingly bearable the more you try.

Good Luck!

Larry

Hi Larry,

‍

This is possibly the WORST month of the year. December is filled with holiday spirit and mutual excitement for winter break. January is less so but is still full of new-year joy and newfound motivation. In February, though, the weather is gloomy, my motivation is gone, and I’m just counting down the days until spring break. Speaking of spring, warm weather feels like a lifetime away. I’m cold AND tired. Will I make it through?

Best,

February Hater

‍

Greetings February Hater,

‍

While you have a point, counting down the days until break will only make the time pass more slowly. Live in the moment, will you? We’re over halfway through the year, anyway. One month is nothing major. While the weather is gloomy, make the most of the temperature—you’ll be wishing you cherished the cold more in a couple of months.

All the best,

Larry

Dear Larry,

‍

My sleep schedule has been beyond saving since winter break. I can’t fall asleep until at least one in the morning, and that’s if I’m lucky. It’s not like I’m up studying, either. Most of the time, I stare at the ceiling or just stare blankly at my phone screen. My wallet is crying from the daily coffee purchases to keep me awake, and so is my biological clock. How do I go back to the old days, where I shut my eyes at 10 pm and got a full 8 hours of slumber?

Much appreciated,

Sleep Deprived

‍

Sleep Deprived,

‍

As you already know, sleep is extremely important. Not getting enough will leave you cranky, groggy, and feeling down in the dumps, unable to do your best work. To ensure you’re getting plentiful, good-quality rest, try to avoid using your phone before bed and sleep in a dark environment. More importantly, talk to your doctor about incorporating healthy lifestyle changes or supplements to help get the rest you deserve.

‍

Sweet dreams,

Larry
