Entertainment label ADOR has provided an update regarding the status of NewJeans, a five-member K-pop group that debuted in 2022, most widely known for their hit songs “Super Shy” and “Attention.” Following a recent court ruling that confirmed the validity of the group’s contracts with the company, the announcement describes each member’s current state after months of legal disputes between ADOR, the members, and their families.
The dispute began in 2024, when NewJeans sought to terminate their contracts with ADOR following internal conflicts and the absence of former CEO Min Hee-jin. ADOR denied their claims and took the matter to court. In October 2025, a Seoul district court ruled that the group’s contracts remain in effect, ending the members’ attempt to promote independently.
Earlier announcements stated that Haerin and Hyein (two members) would continue working with ADOR. The label later verified that Hanni also chose to return, stating, “Hanni decided to respect the court’s ruling and continue with ADOR,” according to Forbes. However, Minji’s future with the group remains undecided.
The most significant change involves Danielle, as ADOR has released news that her contract has been terminated. According to Billboard, ADOR explained that “Having determined that it would be difficult for her to continue as a NewJeans member and ADOR artist, the company notified her of the termination of her exclusive contract.” Additionally, the label sued Danielle, one of her family members, and Min Hee-jin for roughly 30 million USD or 43.1 billion KRW. According to the Korean Broadcasting System World, ADOR alleges that the three defendants are responsible for provoking the dispute and disturbing NewJeans’ activities.
News of Danielle’s departure has sparked a strong reaction online. Many netizens have expressed shock and disappointment on social media, voicing concern over the group’s potential future and criticizing ADOR’s handling of the situation. Others shared support for Danielle and called for fairness and transparency concerning the resolution of the dispute. Cynthia Wu ’29 stated in an interview, “It is really sad that Danielle got kicked out of the group. I remember her face was the most memorable one when I first saw the NewJeans. I think NewJeans doesn't have a future without Danielle because her vocals were such an important part of the group, and their whole dynamic will change because without Danielle, the vibe won't be the same anymore.” Wu’s opinion reflects the concern about how the loss of a member will affect NewJeans’ identity and future, a sentiment shared by many fans who believe that Danielle shaped the group’s sound and image.
As the situation continues to develop, uncertainty surrounds Minji’s return as well as how NewJeans will move forward as a group under ADOR. While the court ruling clarified the status of the remaining members, questions about the group’s long-term direction and relationship with their label persist. For now, netizens are waiting to see how NewJeans will navigate this transition and whether the group can successfully redefine itself after the controversy.
