On October 24, 2025, Daniel Caesar released a new album titled Son of Spergy, with a main theme of family reconciliation, faith, self-discovery, and reconciling his past with his present. Compared to his last album, Never Enough, which focused on romantic love and emotional instability, Daniel Caesar marks a transition to a new and mature era of life with this album. Personally, the song “Who Knows” stood out.

Within the lyrics, Caesar expressed his vulnerability, insecurity, and uncertainty in a deep but fragile love. He highlights that love doesn’t require certainty; it takes enough courage to commit even if the future is unclear. Some lyrics that mirror this message include: “Maybe we will get married one day, who knows?” and “lately I’ve been thinking about my precarious future.” The love the singer feels is valid, yet that love can be so uncertain, as the future is unknown. Through these lyrics, it becomes evident that there is a struggle with personal growth and insecurity deep in his heart.

I spoke with Ashley Espinabarros ’29, a fan of Daniel Caesar. She conveys that “Who Knows” is a calm and relaxing song to listen to, while also finding that there were always points of relatability. The melody of “Who Knows” is extremely touching, and I find myself lost in the song for a long time.

As a singer, Caesar is always improving. This song connects his past and present, and through revealing his inner struggles with faith, “Who Knows” acts as a transition between different periods of his identity. Espinabarros also mentions that this song helps us, as listeners, to understand and reflect on our insecurities. We all recognize that to love someone requires courage; at the same time, acknowledging our inner uncertainty requires bravery.

“I know that I will love you always,” is the most sincere promise that Daniel Caesar has made in this song. Although there can be many endings to one relationship, the love will remain. I love you, always.
