The Concord Academy Varsity and Junior Varsity Volleyball teams both had an excellent fall season. Varsity had a winning season, with a final record of 11-6 and  JV posted the best JV Volleyball record ever at CA, with 11 wins and 2 losses.

When asked about the success of the Varsity team this season, Head Coach Darren Emery said, “We started slow, losing 4 of the first eight. But we turned it around in the second half of the season, going 7-1 in our final eight games.” Their first game of the season was a 3-1 loss at Winsor School, but exactly a month later they beat Winsor 3-0 on our home court. On October 19, all of CA’s fall teams traveled to Pingree to fight for the highly contested Chandler Bowl. The Varsity team was looking for revenge against the Highlanders after suffering a bitter defeat several weeks before. They fell behind, losing the first two sets while all the other events were still happening. But once the gym had filled to the brim with cheering CA students during the third set, the team got back in and played their game. Cheers from the spectators helped the CA team rally and show Pingree who was boss, finally winning 3-2. Overall, Varsity Volleyball had an excellent season and an excellent team this fall, and the fact that all the teams showed up at their Pingree day match shows just how much the volleyball program means to CA.

Girls Junior Varsity Volleyball had the best record ever for that team, with eleven wins and only two losses. According to Head Coach Jeff Desjarlais “We had the best record by a JV Volleyball team at this school, ever. This was contributed to by the excellent leadership by our captains, and the contributions of three excellent froshlets.” The only losses that this squad suffered were to a Newton Country Day School team that had only one loss. There were two games that stood out this season, ones against Governor’s Academy and Middlesex School, that showed the talent of the JV team. During both games, CA had a rocky start, losing the first set with a very close score. But they came roaring back in the second set of each game to beat both teams 2-1, displaying their teamwork and ability to come back. The Varsity team has a promising future with this JV squad below them, and these teams have shown CA what volleyball really means to the school.
