Katseye is a global girl group formed on November 17, 2023, on the reality survival show The Debut: Dream Academy. The members include Manon, Yoonchae, Megan, Sophia, and Daniela. Their first song, “Debut,” released on June 28, 2024, was an instant hit. Since their initial launch, they have now reached every corner of the world with their blend of global Pop and K-pop.

On January 2, 2025, Katseye released a new song titled “Internet Girl.” This song was met with immediate backlash from fans due to various reasons in production. Further, Katseye was also held to very high expectations, especially after they produced hit songs like “Gabriela” and “Gnarly.” These expectations were also influenced when Katseye first teased the single on November 15, 2025, where there were noticeable differences in production choices from the studio version.

One of the main components that fans dislike about “Internet Girl” is the addition of the baby voice at the beginning of the song, saying “I’m getting out of here.” This particular part of the song has been met with strong backlash, with many listeners finding it “cringy” and “unnecessary.” Originally, this part was sung by one of the girls in the group during the live teaser version in November, and this change has escalated the negative reaction towards this situation.

Listeners also frequently noted online that the quality of the lyrics was lackluster and thoughtless. “Internet Girl” is a song about girls navigating the intense and judgmental digital world, yet it includes lyrics such as “eat zucchini,” which repeats four times in just one section of the song, and is heavily distracting from the deeper meaning. While the rest of the lyrics are not nearly as bad as “Eat zucchini,” they don’t fully portray the message of the song. Many enthusiasts believe that these lyrics, partnered with the messy production and backing track, render the song to sound manufactured and fake. To a further extent, some fans even accuse HYBE and GEFFEN (the companies managing Katseye) of merely making the song purely for monetary gain.

Overall, Katseye’s new song has been met with immense amounts of hate from their fanbase.
