After months of long nights and major assignments, winter break is finally almost here, along with the excitement of the Christmas season. To make the most of these two weeks off, here are some fun and relaxing ideas for things to do over the break.

As the days grow shorter and the weather turns colder, spending time at home can feel especially cozy and enjoyable. One of my favorite activities is wearing comfortable pajamas and watching a Christmas movie while enjoying freshly baked cookies and hot chocolate. A classic I love is Home Alone. Its humor and holiday spirit make it a perfect choice. My family and I have a tradition of watching it every year while indulging in festive treats.

Another fun at-home activity is building gingerbread houses. My friends and I often buy kits from Trader Joe’s and spend the afternoon decorating with colorful candies and frosting. Even if the houses do not turn out perfectly, it is always a fun way to laugh and catch up. Decorating your home for the holidays is another way to get into the festive spirit and bring warmth to the space.

There are also many outdoor activities. Every year during winter break, my family and friends visit a ski resort to enjoy a few days of skiing. I especially recommend the Stratton Ski Resort, which has a large mountain and trails for all skill levels. They also have an outdoor hot tub, which is perfect after a long day of skiing. While skiing is fun, you don’t need any equipment to have fun outdoors. You can simply enjoy a walk in the snow, build a snowman, or have a snowball fight with friends.

For those staying near Boston, there are plenty of seasonal activities to enjoy as well. Visiting Snowport is a great option. Snowport is located in the Seaport District and is held every year during the Christmas season. It is full of holiday vibes because of the festive decorations and large Christmas trees. Vendors serve a variety of holiday treats, such as hot chocolate and festive pastries. In addition, you can also attend a Nutcracker performance by the Boston Ballet or go ice skating at Boston Commons, which is always fun with friends.

Whether you choose to stay at home or enjoy the outdoor festivities, there are many activities that you can do during the two weeks off before returning to school and starting a new semester, so make the most of it!
